SNEAKERPIMPS NYC 2007: NAS, EPMD, SLICK RICK

Nas kept fans antsy by not going on until well after 1 a.m., but they left visibly — and audibly — pleased.
He opened with "Hip-Hop Is Dead," then went into his catalog for records such as "One Love" and "Hate Me Now." God's Son ended with "Made You Look," during which he surprised the fans by jumping into the crowd. Once among the people, he began jumping up and down and inciting the people to jump with him. One of Nas' security guards dove into the audience after him, pulling him back to the stage, where he stood none the worse for wear.
"He touched my hand and gave me positive energy," one woman said as the house lights came on.

Besides phat rhymes, spectators saw some of the most exclusive kicks you can hope to get, as sneakers from all over the world were displayed. There was also a pit for professional skaters who sailed up and down ramps. Still, most of the skaters had to put their boards down when the acts came on, especially Nas.

To make this corny excerpt above short and to the point (and as honest as possible)... The Nas performance was the best thing there! "Sneakerpimps" as a whole was a lil bit ... hmmm... not all that exciting. I spent the entire night in a crowd of drunkies trying to avoid knocking people out! I didnt have much time to socialize or look around because the concert segment (which was entirely TOO long) began almost immediately and the crowd grew too large and too quickly for me to turn around and walk the other way.
But either way.... Nas is the man and thats that!

THE HI LITE OF THE NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nas let ole boy come on stage and sing his new song "Surviving the times" w/ him. The song had just been recorded a couple of days ago! Some people hadn't even HEARD the track until that night. I applaud that young man for learning those lyrics so quickly and having courage to get up there and do it! Nas himself didn't memorize his own lyrics. What a classic moment! Check the video!

ST. JOHNS UNIVERSITY PRESENTS...
The chicks were absolutely loving Travis! Black girls, White girls, Indian girls, Asian girls... didn't matter! I guess he's the new hot commodity. I dunno.
Everyone else had to be way more excited than I was. I'm not an avid fan of the group but I think they have pretty decent music. The show in itself was pretty good. Lighting was good, the crowd seemed to really enjoy it. And lets not forget the most important part about it...
IT WAS FREE!!!!!!!
Oh yeah, huge shout out to Verizon for sponsoring the concert!! (I'm IN)
Here are some pictures I took of the event in the slideshow below. Click the link to see the full photos.

"IM A BIG GIRL IM JUS SAYIN' WE COULD HAVE BEEN GOOD TOGETHER... DAMN"
That song hits it on the nail sometimes. Sometimes u start thinking about past relationships and how somehow things went wrong and one thing just ruined it all. And after its all over and tears have dried and years have passed you see his picture and just think ... "we could have been good together, damn!"

Lauryn Hill @ MLK Series Concert
- MTV. com
Lets hear it first hand from someone who too was there... ME! She looked crazy as hell. (View photo for reference) It was 1000 degrees and she decided to drape a cow across her back and addition to a long sleeved blouse. Brilliant! After showing up extremely late I was ready to toss a shoe at the stage ... and then she began to sing and I fell in love with her all over again. Yes, the show and performance was a bit... different. I will admit that. She did a number of scatting and hit song re-vamps... turning slow songs into upbeat rock tunes and things of that nature. It didnt bother me as much as it bothered other people. Alot of people arent fans of scatting and things like that so it was understandable that some of her fans got up and left. However, hoarse or not, her voice was beautiful! She sang "ex-factor" and I wanted to melt in my undies. Crazy or not, she remains one of my top favorite artists of all time.

Have you ever met someone who had all of the world’s possibilities lying right at arms length but wouldn’t take hold of them? Have you ever met somebody who wanted some things so bad but never chased the desires of her heart because of fear? Have you ever met someone so afraid to try and succeed? That person is me.
I’m petrified of the future so I cling to the presence and marvel at the past. Things were simple back then. Things weren’t so complicated. It was a time when good things just came to me. Now that I’m older, things aren’t always handed to me. I have to go get them.
My fear is not that I am insufficient but that my sufficiency is far beyond my expectations. It’s quite oxymoronic I think.
I’d also like to just say that I am highly favored by the Lord b/c I’ve gotten so far in my life at such a young age and not because I deserved it all of the time. I didn’t have to work so hard to get to where I am now. Everything was easy for me and I thank GOD for His unmerited favor upon my life.
Anyway, I guess its time for me to gain some confidence and get in the game and stop watching everyone else play.
